Achterhuus Giethoorn is a boat rental and restaurant in one. Het Achterhuus is a close-knit family business run by the Boer family from Giethoorn. From the 100% private parking lot on the side of the Achterhuus, you can hop into a boat or tour boat. From the free parking spaces it is a maximum of 1 minute walk to the boats and the restaurant.
Het Achterhuus is a boat rental company at D.s T.O Hylkemaweg 43, which is located in the middle of the car-free part of Giethoorn. Nevertheless, you can still park your car in front of the Achterhuus and board your boat. If you want to sail in Giethoorn, but you don't have a boat, you can rent a whisper boat here. They offer 12 luxury sloops for rent. The Achterhuus also does boat tours through Giethoorn in a tour boat. In addition to the possibility of renting a boat, they have a restaurant with a terrace on the village canal of Giethoorn. From the terrace you have a truly beautiful view, with all those passing boats. Come and watch the boats here and enjoy a cup of coffee with apple pie and whipped cream at the same time. They also have their own parking lot next to the restaurant. On their website Achterhuus.nl, boat rental Achterhuus shows very transparently the current price of a sloop and/or whisper boat to be rented.
Rent an electric luxury sloop
These electrically powered sloops offer slightly more comfort and luxury than the average sloop. Each sloop is equipped with an artificial leather cushion set. The steering wheel makes this sloop easy to steer. This makes it also possible for someone without sailing experience to sail around Giethoorn. They are also equipped with a stronger electric motor so that you can sail silently through our village. This sloop can be rented by the hour. FYI: renting on site is cheaper than booking online.
Tour in the tour boat
If you don't want to or can't sail yourself, there is also an option to take a tour in the Achterhuus tour boat. For €12.50 per person (adult) and €8.50 per child you can sail on the tour boat. In about an hour you can see everything Giethoorn has to offer. The skippers of the Achterhuus will tell you enthusiastically about our village. The tour boat can accommodate a maximum of 44 people.

The staff at the Achterhuus is ready to explain to you in advance about the operation of the sloop and the various sailing routes. You will always receive a map with a suggested sailing route. You can reserve a sloop at the Achterhuus in advance via Achterhuus.giethoorn.com or by calling 0521-361674. Booking such a luxury sloop ensures a carefree day in Giethoorn. Even if it's just to avoid disappointment. This is definitely recommended during the following busy periods:

- Pentecost
- May holiday
- Ascension Day
- Weekends from May to September
- Summer holidays (Especially during the Dutch construction holiday 2024)

The restaurant is located 150 meters from the village canal of Giethoorn. Restaurant de Achterhuus is located in the center of Giethoorn. With its own parking space in front of the door, the restaurant certainly has advantages compared to other restaurants in Giethoorn when it comes to parking in Giethoorn. The restaurant has an indoor section and an outdoor section with a view over the village canal. So you can enjoy lunch or dinner both inside and outside. You can also come here for a cup of coffee with apple pie or an ice cream.
